The skin of a victim of tallow fever grows waxy and soft. The flesh of a creature that dies of tallow fever dissolves leaving a pile of slime and bones. 1d3 hours after death the slime coalesces into a new diseased sludge one size smaller than the infected creature.
Vulnerable to Remove Disease (Ex) A remove disease spell deals 1d6 points of damage per caster level to a diseased sludge.
Spawned from cramped city alleys and packed hospices, diseased sludge is a bacterial colony grown so large that it has become ambulatory. Diseased sludge best incubates in a living creature, so the colony instinctively seeks warm moving targets it can infect. They wandering aimlessly until they find victims. While not harmed by bright light, diseased sludge prefers the dark and is often found in alleys, sewers, and abandoned buildings.
The majority of diseased sludge are small, being discharged from humans and elves. However, both larger or smaller diseased sludge have been reported. Most variant diseased sludge were spawned in cities where the inhabitants were of different size, such as giant tribes or halfling communities. But occasionally, two or three diseased sludge will merge into a single large colony. Use the Giant Creature and Young Creature simple templates for diseased sludge of different size categories. There are rumours of massive diseased sludge, known as living pandemics. These large masses roam the countryside infecting entire villages, growing as they travel.
