At World’s End

When you use miniatures there’s a cap to the size of encounters: the size of the table. You can fudge things a little, moving a character off the battle map and into a formless void of abstract distance, but at that point why are you still even using a miniature? It’s not really being moved anymore: you’ve segued into Theatre of the Mind.

I say this, but on more than once occasion I’ve moved a miniature off the table and onto the nearby minifridge or over onto a folding table positioned a meter or so away from the actual table to represent just how darn far away a character is from the action. Usually an archer, busy shooting with pinpoint precision at improbable distances.
