I’m not sure whether to feel proud about this dad joke or a little ashamed. Next I’ll be doing a “dice pool” joke with the gamers swimming laps.

So-called “exploding” dice systems are fun. When you roll a certain number, you can reroll the dice. And then again if you roll another of that number. Like always rolling another d6 after getting a 6. The system has the potential for crazy things where you just keep rolling and rolling, but generally the odds of that are rare enough that the system is otherwise balanced.

I’ve seen a few variants of D&D that make use of this, typically by replacing the d20 with 3d6.
