Carpe Diem
It’s important to have a good battlecry. You can shout “For ______!” and inserting your homeland into the blank. But that doesn’t work if you’re not actually defending your home. Something scary like “Blood, death, and vengeance!” also works but isn’t particularly heroic. Shouting your god’s name is fine unless there’s only one god of battle or war, in which case you’re likely screaming at someone saying the exact same thing. Sometimes it’s best to just howl “Victory!” and charge, hoping that you don’t lose. Dying is always annoying, but it’s especially embarrassing if your last words loudly proclaimed your success.
In a nordic-themed campaign I played many years ago there was a southern paladin, coming from a land similar to ancient Greece. He was a follower of Athena. The point is, the player was used to play a dwarf fellow of Moradin… then something unexpected happened, and we heard the paladin shout “For Athena’s beard!”. The PC didn’t survive long after….
