Happy Surprise?
The birth of my son killed my 4th Edition D&D campaign. Well, the fact that the birth almost killed my wife had more to do with killing the campaign than my son himself, but the birth didn’t help. The ironic thing is that, after a year of just playing things by ear and having only the loosest idea where the story was going, I had just sat down and planned out the final beats of the campaign building to a big climax for the heroic tier.
Even with gaming being a largely sitting based hobby and newborns spending most of their time sleeping, balancing gaming with an infant is tricky. And it just gets harder and harder as the child gets older.
I totally understand, being in the same situation. Had to drop many of my hobbies, but every smile I get from my son repays me. Still, I’m DMing, just twice a month, and it took me 3 years to develop a campaign… which I’ll recycle for him and his friends if they’ll decide to be players, in the future.
