In the Background

Conveying the origin story of a dungeon to the players can sometimes be tricky. Often times adventures can have a lot going on in the background, complex webs of motivations and betrayals with multiple gambits and bluffs. All of this vast tapestry of lies going completely unnoticed because the only people who could possibly explain this to the PCs are dead or killed on sight.

Published adventures can be particularly bad for this. The adventure need to include the information in case the players get creative and start using divination magic to look into the origin of the crypt or think of other ways of finding that information. Published mods pretty much have to have that extra layer of detail. But it would be nice if there was a provided way for the players to figure things out.
