Make a wish

I love the craziness having wish brings to the game. The creativity and adjudication required emphasise what separates D&D from other games. You could never, ever have a spell or power like wish in a board game or video game. Spells like wish define what makes D&D and other role-playing games unique and special and different.

There’s often penalties and problems with a wish, which is not unique to D&D. TV Tropes has two pages dedicated to genies (here and here) , but the same tropes would apply to other sources of wishes. The iconic W.W. Jacobs story The Monkey’s Paw (published waaaay back in 1902) is a classic example of this.

Of course, because everyone knows wishes can (and likely will) be twisted, players often take extraordinary steps when planning a wish.
