Mapping Skills

I’ve only had one D&D game where a player was tasked with making a map and keeping track of the group’s position in the dungeon. This was in a very unconventional 4e game in early 2012 and it was a heck of a lot of fun. And stress. I can see why it’s rare, but there’s something fun in trusting the players to keep track of their position amid dark, twisting corridors of an underground labyrinth.

I wonder if there’s a way to still do this while still having miniatures & battlemaps or having to track every turn and foot. Maybe treating the dungeon map more like a flowchart? That might be interesting.
