Sandbox Campaign

I’m in the early stages of starting a somewhat sandbox campaign. I’ve been playing with the same group for roughly six years, and during that time I’ve run three prepublished campaigns, three or four published adventures, and ran a game that was supposed to be more sandbox but ended up having some subtle rails. After so many published adventures, I’m looking forward to letting the players have more free rein and ability to just go in random directions. I’m looking forward to being more reactive and open to improvisation.

Although, I’m a little worried they might need more structure. Most sandbox RPGs have a throughline of a plot that one can fall back on when other goals are lacking. And after so much published content, I worry my improvisational skills will no longer be up to snuff…
