If only to see the player’s faces and watch the non-face stumble over the lie, as they attempt to repeat back what literally just heard.

It’s definitely a meta move. In a world where the rules are reality, being able to be convinced of anything by people who are skilled enough liars would encourage some extra security of beliefs.

From a non-meta perspective, this is parent/ teacher 101. Separate the kids and ask them to each tell you what happened and compare the stories.
