Serving Hard Time
No one at my table has a “dice jail” but putting dice on timeout isn’t uncommon. When a dice is rolling cool it gets dumped back in the dice bag or tossed in a drawer. I don’t do this myself and try to roll through a streak of bad luck, figuring out that statistically it will even out eventually. As a Dungeon Master, I have my set of DM dice and generally need all of them (and bad luck for me just makes the player’s days). Even as a player, at most I just alternate dice for a while, rotating d20s in and out over a session.
But I can’t fault people want to punish some dice. Someone has to blame for the “natural 1”.
I had a dice that was mean to me a few days ago. It wasn’t rolling well, so I swapped it with one of the DM’s dice.
Lo and behind, a string of 15s and 16s.
In other news, D&D is the only game of chance where you don’t want to see three 7s in a row. *ba-dum-tish*
