Slapstick

WotC is selling 5e/ D&D Next under the hook that it will have any number of optional rules aka “modules”, which can be used to play D&D the way you want to play D&D.

While my first concern is over the name (in D&D parlance “module” refers to a published adventure) I wonder how far they could take these rules modules. It is a lovely idea a wholeheartedly support. Being able to customize my game is a huge selling feature.

I just hope WotC actually follows through and doesn’t release a couple token rules modules before skimping on other content, labelling it too “niche”. The rules module idea only works if we get an array of content, both major and minor, mainstream and hipster.
