Smiling Happy People

There’s a standard assumption that every time the PCs complete a quest and walk into a town there will be a new quest and task that needs to be accomplished. No matter how much the players might joke about the characters needing a day off or a break from saving the world, if the party ever ended up in a town and there wasn’t a smouldering commoner who needed help saving their farm from an irate dragon or innkeeper fresh from the wine cellar and sporting numerous giant rat bite marks—if there was no new job—they probably wouldn’t know what to do with themselves. They’d freeze at the town’s job board, like a computer that had been given an impossible task, unable to process the impossible contradiction confronting them.
