Soylent Green

Food is an interesting limited resource in dungeons. Most of the time, tracking food and mundane purchases is needless. The cost of a few meals and some arrows is negligible, especially in editions with assumed magical wealth. But this isn’t always true: if prevented from resupplying food and ammunition things can get very interesting very fast. But, most of the time, this doesn’t happen and the adventurers are just assumed to have food and supplies, whole packs of rations they somehow grabbed despite planning for little more than an afternoon delve. Which feels like a missed opportunity. Growing hunger and the risk of starvation would make for interesting stories and might push adventurers to make some hard choices.
