To The Brim

Creatures with odd dietary restrictions can be a little awkward when you think about it. In this case, Mind Flayers. They eat brains. But brains are likely not an easily acquired food product. To get a full-sized brain ready to serve takes fifteen years. That’s a long time. For some perspective, cattle take three years to mature before reaching a slaughterable age. (Yes, I’m aware that’s not a real word.)

Where to Illithids get all the brains they need to eat? Do they just have vast breeding farms? It seems hugely inefficient from a time-to-meal basis, especially when you consider how much food your meals would consume.
