In the real world there are all kinds of sub-churches, cults, faiths with variant dogmas, splinter factions, and general disunity among the religious. People are tribal by nature and even when you write down the rules to abide by, people will interpret things differently or emphasise different passages.

It’s interesting there are so few schisms among fantasy religions. All the follower of Evilor, god of darkness and puppy-kicking, are united without deviation. There’s no religious war over kicking puppies with the left foot over the right, or at what age the dog stops being a puppy and thus kickable.

When paired with the propensity for “heroes” to violently murder anyone identifiably evil without hesitation or a first thought, this could have interesting consequences.
